Munster, Indiana (pop. 23,592).  The Town of Munster seeks a progressive and innovative leader to serve as its next Chief of Police. 

The Munster Police Department is CALEA accredited with 38 sworn officers and 12 civilian employees.  Munster is located 26 miles from downtown Chicago in Lake County, Indiana. 

A family oriented community, Munster is known for its diverse economy, excellent school system, numerous recreational opportunities, and cultural amenities. 

Qualified candidates will have a proven record of accomplishment in proactive, approachable leadership, preferably in a community with a diverse population.  Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or related field required; master’s degree preferred along with seven to ten years of increasingly responsible management experience. 

Candidates must possess outstanding interpersonal communication skills, proven problem solving abilities, and experience with mentoring and developing employees. 

In addition, candidates must have strong background in police operations, budgeting and personnel management.  Police Chief works closely with Board of Safety on rules and procedures for department as well as hiring, promotions and discipline. 

Police Chief appointment is recommended by Board of Safety with approval of Town Council.  Police Chief reports to Town Manager on a day to day basis. 

Residency within the Town of Munster is required. 

Starting salary range:  $75,000 - $80,000 DOQ.
