The Galion Civil Service Commission will conduct a physical ability and written examination to establish an eligibility list for the classification of

POLICE OFFICER

for the City of Galion

Applications to take this test will be available at the Galion City Building, 301 Harding Way East beginning October 6, 2008 during 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Applications must be returned, completed, by NOON on October 17, 2008.  A performance deposit of $20.00 CASH must accompany each application.  The $20.00 deposit will be refunded to the applicant only upon completion of the test. 

The physical ability test will be administered at the Galion High School football stadium at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2008.  Candidates who pass the physical ability test will then take the written examination on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at the Galion High School. 

Applicants must have a High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent at time of interview and attained the age of twenty-one years and be no more than thirty-five on or before the date of appointment to the Police Department.  Applicants must already have their Ohio Peace Officer Certification or be currently enrolled in a certified Ohio Police Officer Academy at the time of the exam.
  
Applicants claiming extra credit for honorable, active state and/or federal military service; or completion of the OPOTA program must substantiate that claim by an ATTACHMENT (such as Discharge Certificate or certification) to their completed application at the time of submission (NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE).

A passing grade on the written exam is 72%.  The City of Galion offers a very attractive salary package for this position; starting pay rate is $13.73 per hour.  An excellent fringe benefits package includes paid vacation, sick time, life, medical, dental and optical coverage and an extremely attractive pension program.
