The City of Huber Heights, Ohio, is seeking a well-qualified and demonstrated leader as its next Chief of Police. The city is located in northeastern Montgomery County and bridges into southern Miami County. Huber Heights is a community of approximately 43,590 residents, incorporated as a city in 1981. Its residents enjoy a high quality of life and are served well by a progressive and efficient full-service city government.

The Chief of Police is an appointed position and reports directly to the City Manager/Public Safety Director. The Police Division is led by the Chief of Police, supported by a command staff of a Deputy Chief and two Lieutenants. The division has 60 sworn officers and 26 civilian staff and has an operating budget of $13,855,920.

The selected candidate will be responsible for administrative oversight, visioning, leadership, planning, management, and budgeting. The candidate will foster a culture of innovation and provide leadership in attracting, retaining and developing an engaged workforce in the delivery of superior services to City residents and businesses and be responsible for providing quality, professional police service to the community.

The next Chief will be responsible for adhering to and promoting a Code of Ethics and enforcing high ethical standards to maintain public trust, uphold the law, and lead with integrity. The ideal candidate will strengthen organizational systems, reinforce professional culture, and guide the Division through continued growth while ensuring accountability through clear policies, consistent supervision, and transparent processes. The candidate will have strong administrative, fiscal management, and oversight skills and the moral courage to guide the Division’s continued evolution with professionalism and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, public administration, or closely related field with a minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in police service and a minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated supervisory experience as Chief, Deputy Chief, or other equivalent rank one level below Chief in a law enforcement agency; or an equivalent combination of education and experience to provide sufficient evidence of the successful performance of the essential functions of the job. Candidate must be a certified Peace Officer in the State of Ohio or eligible for certification reinstatement. An equivalent certification from another state to qualify for reciprocity may be considered. Most possess a valid Ohio Driver License. Master’s degree in criminal justice, public administration or closely related field preferred. Completion of management level programs also preferred.

Prior to appointment, the candidate must submit to an extensive background investigation and pre-employment testing to include physical and drug screening.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary Range: 118,996 to $166,587 (salary is dependent on qualifications and experience)
  • Vacation accruals are based on full time service with an Ohio political subdivision (25 + years is 259.22 hours (32 days per year)
  • 24-hours of Personal Leave each year (pro-rate on hire date)
  • Accrue 5.00 hours of sick leave per pay period (130 hours per year) max 1285 hours with cash out of excess hours at 1:3
  • 12 paid Holidays
  • Medical Insurance premium is 100% paid by the city.
  • Health Savings Account or Health Reimbursement Arrangement available with generous city contributions.
  • $50,000 Life Insurance (AD&D) paid 100% by the city with the option of voluntary insurance on spouse and dependent paid by the employee

Position Summary:

The Chief of Police serves as the executive head of the Lawrence Township Police Department, responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and operation of the department. This includes ensuring the delivery of professional law enforcement services, maintaining public safety, and fostering positive community relationships. The Chief is expected to lead by example and actively participate in both administrative and patrol functions.

Department Overview:
The Lawrence Township Police Department is a 10-officer agency serving a vibrant and active community. The department includes a K-9 program and plays a key role in supporting large-scale events such as the annual Country Fest, as well as ensuring safety along the heavily traveled State Route 21 corridor. The township is also home to portions of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, adding a unique recreational and community policing component.

This position offers a rare opportunity for a hands-on Chief of Police to lead from the front, balancing administrative leadership with active involvement in daily operations and patrol as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to all department personnel.
– Develop, implement, and enforce departmental policies and procedures.
– Oversee daily operations, including patrol, investigations, and administrative functions.
– Respond to calls for service and perform patrol duties as necessary.
– Prepare and manage the department budget and oversee fiscal operations.
– Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
– Serve as liaison between the police department, township trustees, and the community.
– Promote community-oriented policing and maintain public trust.
– Oversee hiring, training, discipline, and evaluation of personnel.
– Manage departmental records, reporting, and accreditation efforts if applicable.
– Coordinate mutual aid and interagency cooperation with surrounding jurisdictions.

Minimum Qualifications:
– High school diploma or GED (associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field preferred).
– Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience.
– Minimum of 3–5 years of supervisory or command-level experience.
– Current Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) certification.
– Valid Ohio driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field.
– Advanced law enforcement training such as FBI National Academy, CLEE, or equivalent.
– Experience in a small to mid-sized law enforcement agency.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
– Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
– Thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement practices and legal standards.

Compensation and Benefits: (TBD)

– The 2026 salary for Police Chief is $99,238. In 2027 there will be a 3% raise (following the FOP contract for the officers) for a total of $102,215.

Brimfield Township (population approx. 13,000, 22 sq. miles in size located in Portage County in northeast Ohio) is seeking an experienced law enforcement professional to serve in the second-in-command position of Police Captain. Under the general guidance of the Chief of Police, the Captain is an administrative position responsible for day-to-day management of all Police Department operations.

The Brimfield Township Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency consisting of 20 full-time sworn personnel, 2 full-time Administrative Assistant/Record Clerks, 1 part-time Administrative Assistant/Records Clerk, and 2 Auxiliary Officers. Current special assignments include officers assigned full-time as School Resource Officer, Detective, and K-9 Handler. The command staff consists of the Chief of Police, Captain, and 4 Patrol Sergeants. Together, our department is dedicated to fair and consistent law enforcement and preserving peace and quality of life. The Department prides itself on community engagement, with “community” as an agency core value.

To ensure Township residents continue to receive a high level of service, the successful candidate will continuously review department operations to plan for future improvements; review and adopt progressive law enforcement strategies; ensure department members continue to receive quality training; and further strengthen relationships with our residents and the Field Local Schools.

Brimfield Township is a growing community, with a large retail and industrial footprint on our western border with The Cascades of Brimfield and The Marketplace at Maplecrest, and Kent State University is located on our northern border. Despite our growth, we continue to provide services beyond basic law enforcement services, such as resident vacation house checks and vehicle lock-out services.

The salary for this position is established at 15% above the sergeant contract negotiated pay rate (currently $111,924.80). The Township can offer the successful candidate a comprehensive benefits package that includes a platinum zero deductible health care plan, uniform allowance, use of a take home Township vehicle and generous time off benefits. Sick leave earned with another political subdivision in the state of Ohio may be transferred to Brimfield Township, and service time with another political subdivision in the state of Ohio is credited towards your allotted vacation time with Brimfield Township. An employment agreement spelling out the salary and benefits for the selected candidate will be presented by the Board of Trustees.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum of ten (10) years full-time law enforcement experience with at least five (5) years of full-time supervisory experience at the rank of Sergeant or above.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current OPOTA certification.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
• Previously demonstrated police administrative experience at the rank of Lieutenant, Captain, Commander, Asst. Chief, Deputy Chief, or Chief.
• Completion of one or more advanced management training(s) such as: Police Executive Leadership College (PELC), Certified Law Enforcement Executive program (CLEE), FBI National Academy, Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, Southern Police Institute, Ohio Public Safety Leadership Academy, or other equivalent law enforcement executive leadership courses of study.

Evaluation of Applicants:
For the first part of the evaluation process, applicants will be rated based upon their achievements and experience as demonstrated by your resume, cover letter, and submitted essay. Qualified applicants will then interview with the Chief of Police. The top applicants will be invited to participate in the third part of the evaluation process, which is an assessment center administered by the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police on Sat. June 20th, 2026. The Board of Trustees and Township Administrator will conduct a final interview and select a final candidate.

The selected candidate may be subject to a background investigation, psychological evaluation, polygraph examination, and pre-employment drug screen/medical prior to final appointment.
