Compensation: $32.69 Hourly
The Police Officer is a member of a community policing-focused organization who uses forward thinking and community-oriented policing skills that identify potential issues, build positive relationships, and encourage innovative solutions to create a safe campus that fosters learning and student success. The Police Officer actively patrols campus, providing a highly visible patrol presence to help safeguard against criminal activity; responds to law enforcement calls for service, and ensures safety and protection of life and property within the campus community, while assisting students, faculty, staff, and visitors; enforces state laws and campus policy, procedures, rules and regulations; responds to emergency calls and shares on-call responsibility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. An employee assigned to this classification works on one of three shifts and may be required to work holidays or evenings outside of scheduled workday.
Patrol
- Patrols campus property by foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle. Enforces state laws and campus policy, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Responds to emergency calls as well as non-emergency police calls for service. Provides general police assistance including giving directions, jumpstarts, car unlocks, tire changes, and safety escorts.
- Assists persons with mobility or other disabilities.
- Provides customer service and maintains good public relations with student body, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Assists other College personnel in the operation of safety monitoring systems, the emergency operations center, access control, alarms, fire suppression, equipment, and the emergency messaging system.
- Responds to fire, security, and mechanical system alarms and reports emergencies and equipment malfunctions in accordance with established procedures.
- Locks and unlocks buildings, rooms, and offices.
- Administers CPR, performs first aid, and operates an Automated Electronic Defibrillator (AED), if necessary .
Community Engagement
- Collaborates with other campus and non-campus partners to identify and develop solutions to safety and security issues.
- Provides safety and security training to students, faculty, and staff.
- Participates in various campus events and activities that promote campus safety.
- Engages in public contact via telephone, e-mail, or in person to take complaints, answer inquiries, and provide assistance.
Administrative
- Completes and maintains required documentation, such as incident and criminal offense reports.
- Interviews witnesses and crime victims.
- Collects and processes physical evidence.
- Testifies in court, as well as College administrative review teams.
- Receives and documents lost and found items.
Culture of Respect
- Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities:
- Attends all required department meetings and training.
- Assists other College department and personnel during peak times and special events that serve the College.
- May assist persons with mobility or other impairments.
- Subject to call-in (24) twenty-four hours a day (7) seven days a week. May also include working at either the Columbus or Delaware campuses as well as regional learning centers (RLC).

- * Please note that candidates do not have to have a current Ohio Peace Officer certification. You will be sent to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP) Academy to complete your Basic Peace Officer training. To be accepted into the academy, candidates must meet the physical fitness standards outlined in the attached document. The program is approximately six months long. While attending the training, candidates are required to live at the academy Monday through Friday and must adhere to the academy’s code of conduct.

Communications Technician (Police Dispatcher)
Hourly Pay Rate: $26.92
The Communications Technician performs police department dispatch duties to include operating Multi Agency Radio Communications (MARCS) radios, computer-aided dispatch (CAD), security cameras and public safety systems. Receives and responds to calls for service generated from telephone calls, system alarms, and customer interaction. Subject to call-in (24) twenty- four hours a day (7) seven days a week. An employee assigned to this classification works on one of three shifts and may be required to work holidays or evenings outside of scheduled workday. Works varied shifts as assigned and may be required to work overtime.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Dispatch
- Operates Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and MARCS radios. Receives and responds to calls for service generated from telephone calls, system alarms, and customer interaction.
- Enters necessary information in the CAD and dispatches appropriate personnel. Receives and transmits messages to law enforcement officers, emergency squads, fire departments, and other personnel.
- Monitors radio messages and logs incoming and outgoing calls in CAD, and provides continued communications as needed.
- Accesses and utilizes various law enforcement and college databases and information systems to retrieve, enter, or verify information.
- Operates and monitors safety systems to include fire safety and electronic access alarm systems, security cameras, Public Address(PA)system, and campus emergency notification system.
- Provides customer service to students, faculty, staff, administrators, and visitors of the College. Accepts, logs, retrieves, and returns lost and found property.
- Receives, resolves, or forwards complaints when reported to the police department. Takes and forwards messages to police personnel.
Administrative
- Keeps complete and accurate records and documentation.
- Complies with Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS) and the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway (OHLEG) rules and regulations and assists with LEADS and OHLEG audits.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.

The City of Huber Heights, Ohio, is seeking a well-qualified and demonstrated leader as its next Chief of Police. The city is located in northeastern Montgomery County and bridges into southern Miami County. Huber Heights is a community of approximately 43,590 residents, incorporated as a city in 1981. Its residents enjoy a high quality of life and are served well by a progressive and efficient full-service city government.
The Chief of Police is an appointed position and reports directly to the City Manager/Public Safety Director. The Police Division is led by the Chief of Police, supported by a command staff of a Deputy Chief and two Lieutenants. The division has 60 sworn officers and 26 civilian staff and has an operating budget of $13,855,920.
The selected candidate will be responsible for administrative oversight, visioning, leadership, planning, management, and budgeting. The candidate will foster a culture of innovation and provide leadership in attracting, retaining and developing an engaged workforce in the delivery of superior services to City residents and businesses and be responsible for providing quality, professional police service to the community.
The next Chief will be responsible for adhering to and promoting a Code of Ethics and enforcing high ethical standards to maintain public trust, uphold the law, and lead with integrity. The ideal candidate will strengthen organizational systems, reinforce professional culture, and guide the Division through continued growth while ensuring accountability through clear policies, consistent supervision, and transparent processes. The candidate will have strong administrative, fiscal management, and oversight skills and the moral courage to guide the Division’s continued evolution with professionalism and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, public administration, or closely related field with a minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in police service and a minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated supervisory experience as Chief, Deputy Chief, or other equivalent rank one level below Chief in a law enforcement agency; or an equivalent combination of education and experience to provide sufficient evidence of the successful performance of the essential functions of the job. Candidate must be a certified Peace Officer in the State of Ohio or eligible for certification reinstatement. An equivalent certification from another state to qualify for reciprocity may be considered. Most possess a valid Ohio Driver License. Master’s degree in criminal justice, public administration or closely related field preferred. Completion of management level programs also preferred.
Prior to appointment, the candidate must submit to an extensive background investigation and pre-employment testing to include physical and drug screening.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: 118,996 to $166,587 (salary is dependent on qualifications and experience)
- Vacation accruals are based on full time service with an Ohio political subdivision (25 + years is 259.22 hours (32 days per year)
- 24-hours of Personal Leave each year (pro-rate on hire date)
- Accrue 5.00 hours of sick leave per pay period (130 hours per year) max 1285 hours with cash out of excess hours at 1:3
- 12 paid Holidays
- Medical Insurance premium is 100% paid by the city.
- Health Savings Account or Health Reimbursement Arrangement available with generous city contributions.
- $50,000 Life Insurance (AD&D) paid 100% by the city with the option of voluntary insurance on spouse and dependent paid by the employee
